A quote that I will always remember and cherish is by author John Eldredge:
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
I can tell you lately what makes me come alive is talking to people about Kiva.
From the Kiva website:
Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world. By choosing a loan on Kiva, you can “sponsor a business” and help the world’s working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the entrepreneur you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.
Kiva gives me a real sense of hope for humanity. That individuals all over the world can come together to help others using the internet and technology and make an actual impact in people’s lives. On a daily basis. In areas that really matter. Putting food on the table. Providing security. Giving people hope for a better life.
Kiva makes me happy that somehow all of this virtuality can make the world a brighter place.
